The Big Red women's indoor track and field team posted a victory in the 4x800 relay en route to a seventh place finish at the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference Relays from Oberlin, Ohio. Denison finished the event with 19 points. Ohio Wesleyan earned the team championship with 107 points. Oberlin followed in second-place with 79 points.
Denison's winning foursome in the 4x800 was comprised of sophomore Michelle Clark (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria Catholic), Ani Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson), Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East), and Julie Rotramel (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette). The team combined for a winning time of 10:14.02 to outdistance second-place Oberlin by more than three seconds.
Putnam and Mutafova would also run on the 4x400 relay team along with Laura Houcque (Elkhorn, Wis./Evanston Twp [Ill.]) and Laura Wolgamott (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville). DU would finish seventh in that relay with a time of 4:41.25.
The 1600 sprint medley saw Alesha Stewart (Houma, La./School for Math, Science and Art), Rose Schrott (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Ellen Fugate (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Beth Armitage (Vienna, Va./James Madison) turn in a fifth-place finish in 4:44.03.
DU's remaining three points were earned by Stewart and Schrott in the 55 meter dash relay. Stewart place 12th with a time of 8.09 seconds and Schrott followed in 14th with a time of 8.21 seconds.
Denison will compete next Saturday (Feb. 5) in the Greater Columbus Division III Invitational which will be hosted by Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio.
