NCAC Championships are underway

The Denison women's indoor track and field team opened up competition from the 2011 NCAC Indoor Championships at Oberlin College on Friday and the Big Red sit in seventh place heading into Saturday's finals.

Denison got a seventh place finish from Claire Navarro (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) in the triple jump to pick up two points for the Big Red on Friday. Navarro covered a distance of 9.73 meters.  Her teammate, Georgie Strohmenger (Canton, Ohio/Hoover) placed 10th with a distance of 8.80 meters.

In the pole vault, Ashlee Dickson (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) just missed earning the Big Red some additional points with a ninth place finish.  Dickson cleared 2.59 meters.

In the 800 meter prelims, Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East) placed fifth and Ani Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) took 12th.  Putnam crossed the finish line in 2:24.04, setting herself up for a run at the event title on Saturday. She placed second in the event last year.
