The Big Red took third at the annual Denison Lid-Lifter behind three first-place finishes on Saturday afternoon in Granville.
Denison was led by sophomore Tiffany Davis who won both the 60 and 200-meter dashes. Davis completed the 60 in 8.04 seconds, while her time of 26.32 in the 200 marked the third-best finish in program history. Also picking up a victory for DU was senior distance runner Ani Mutafova. Mutafova won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.34.
The Big Red also posted four runner-up finishes at the season-opening event. Sophomore Emily Siskind and first-year Abbi Boss took second in the 800 and 3,000, respectively. Siskind turned in a time of 2:31.36, while Boss clocked in at 11:22.74. Denison also took home the silver in two relay events. The foursome of Rose Schrott, Davis, Jane Zelenkov and Ashlee Dickson finished second in the 4x200 with a time of 1:56.37. Zelenkov then paired up with Mutafova, Siskind and Laura Houcque to finish runner-up in the 4x400 relay (4:37.22).
Sophomore Olivia Galano finished third in the 3,000-meter run after crossing the line at 11:46.60, while Schrott and Zelenkov took home the bronze in the 60 (8.58) and 400 (1:07.29), respectively.
Defiance finished first with 142 points, while Wittenberg (123), Denison (105) and Transylvania (46) rounded out the four-team field.
The Big Red returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 4) at the Fighting Scots Invitational hosted by the College of Wooster. The event is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
