DU sits fifth after day one at NCACs

After day one of the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championship hosted by The College of Wooster, the Denison women's indoor track & field team sit in fifth place with 26 points.

Ohio Wesleyan leads the eight team field with 62 points, while Oberlin sits second with 50 tallies.  Wooster is third with 31 points, while DePauw (30) and Denison (26) round out the top five.

Fresh off last weekend's victory in the NCAC Heptathlon, first-year Aedin Brennan added eight more points to the Big Red's total with a second-place finish in the triple jump.  Brennan picked up her second All-NCAC honor after posting a jump of 35-03.75.

Sophomore Kristen Geary scored five points after taking fourth in the pole vault.  The second-year vaulter cleared 9-06.25 en route to her top-5 finish.  Also scoring for DU was senior Michelle Clark.  Clark completed the 5,000-meter run in 18:16.48 en route to a sixth-place finish.

In Friday's prelims, reigning NCAC Sprinter of the Year Tiffany Davis won both the 60 and 200-meter races.  Davis posted a time of 7.89 to win the 60-meter event and completed the 200 in 25.83.  Also competing in those events was first-year Kiki Yewer.  Yewer qualified for the finals in the 60-meter event with a time of 8.31, but narrowly missed the cut in the 200.

Brennan also picked up a victory in the prelims on Friday night.  The freshman posted the lone sub one minute time in the 400 prelim after clocking in at 59.65.  That time moved Brennan into third place on the school's all-time performers list.

First-year Emily Lamm also advanced to the 800-meter run finals on Saturday.  Lamm's time of 2:24.93 was the sixth-best overall and the fourth-best in her preliminary heat.

Denison will close out the 2013 NCAC Indoor Championship on Saturday in Wooster, Ohio.  Field events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m., while the running events will start at 2:30 p.m.
