The Denison women's track & field team opened up the 2015 schedule with a fifth-place finish at its annual Lid-Lifter held inside the Mitchell Fieldhouse on the campus of Denison University.
Junior All-American Aedin Brennan led the Big Red with four top-5 performances on the day, which was highlighted by a victory in the triple jump. Brennan finished with a combined leap of 35'06.50", while sophomore teammate Anne Lee took fourth with a mark of 33'03.25". The duo of Brennan and Lee also teamed up for points in the long jump. The junior finished third with a jump of 16'11.25", while the sophomore placed seventh in the event (15'06.75").
Brennan also took fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:01.81. Her fourth-and-final top-5 performance came as the anchor for the 4x400 relay team. Brennan, freshman Grace Murray, senior Kristen Geary and freshman Phoebe Osterhout combined for a time of 4:30.77 which landed them in fourth place.
Other scoring performances came from junior Kate Benson, and freshmen Hannah Hall and Arlesha Cospy. Hall took third in the high jump after clearing 4'11.75", while Benson and Cospy each turned in foruth-place performances. Benson clocked in with a time of 11:22.42 in the 3,000-meter run, while Cospy recorded a toss of 37'09.25" in the shot put.
Division II California University of Pa. won the event with 117.5 points followed by Carnegie Mellon with 89.50. Wilmington (77.50), Washington & Lee (74.50) and Denison (48) rounded out the top five spots in the 11-team field.
The Big Red returns to action next weekend when they travel to The College of Wooster for the Fighting Scots Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
