Denison wins five events at Kenyon

The Denison women's track & field team won five events and racked up 77 points en route to a fourth-place finish at the Kenyon College Classic in Gambier, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Abbi Boss, junior Aedin Brennan and freshman Hannah Hall were the Big Red's three individual winners on Saturday. Boss led a trio of DU athletes in the 3,000-meter run. The senior won the event with a personal-best time of 10:38.89. Junior Kate Benson was third in 11:20.31, while Macey Thornburg took seventh after crossing the finish line in 11:51.52.

Brennan and Hall were both victorious in field events. Brennen won the long jump with a mark of 16'11.50". Sophomore Anne Lee also scored in the event with a leap of 14'10.50" which landed her in eighth place. Hall's win came in the high jump after clearing 5'0.25". On Friday night at the Ohio State University Tune-Up, Brennan and Lee both competed in the triple jump. Brennan placed fifth with a school-record leap of 38'2.25", while Lee was 10th with a mark of 34'5".

Denison's other two victories came in the relay events. Brennan, Olivia Ireland, Grace Murray and Phoebe Osterhout won both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. The foursome posted a time of 1:52.16 in the 4x200 relay and 4:10.69 in the 4x400.

Frsehman thrower Arlesha Cospy had the next highest finish with a runner-up performance in the shot put. Cospy placed second with a toss of 39'9.25".  Freshman Jessica Nix placed fifth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 10.23. Nix qualified for the finals with a PR time of 10.21 in the prelims.  Molly Korest and Sarah McKendry finished 6-7 in the 5,000 run with times of 20:57.09 and 21:47.64, respectively. Rounding out the scoring was freshman vaulter Allison Pineault who took eighth after successfully clearing 9'6.25". That mark was a personal-best for Pineault.

Ohio Wesleyan won the event with 157.50 points, while Wooster (125) edged Kenyon (122.75) for second place. Denison, Westminster (72.75), PSU-Behrend (38) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (8) rounded out the team scoring.

The Big Red returns to action on Friday (Feb. 27) when they host the Denison Last Chance Meet at the Mitchell Fieldhouse. Events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
