Big Red hosts Last Chance Meet

Denison had two victories, 10 personal-best performances and one school record set at its annual Last Chance Meet held at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio.

The freshman duo of Arlesha Cospy and Hannah Hall picked up the Big Red's two victories on Friday night. Cospy won the shot put with a personal-best toss of 41'7.75", while Hall won the high jump after clearing 4'11.50".

DU had three athletes finish in the top-9 in the mile. Senior Abbi Boss led the way with a runner-up performance after crossing the line in 5:17.99. Juniors Kate Benson and Macey Thornburg both had PRs in the event. Benson finished fifth with a time of 5:26.78, while Thornburg was ninth after checking in at 5:45.01. In addition to finishing fifth, Benson's time also landed her eighth on the school's top performers list.

Sophomore Anne Lee had Denison's final second-place finish, after posting a mark of 35'0.25" in the triple jump. In the pole vault, freshman Allison Pineault and senior Kristen Geary both finished in the top-7. Pineault had a personal-best mark in the event after clearing 10'. That high tied her with Geary for third on the Big Red's top performer's list. Geary finished the event tied for seventh with a mark of 9'0.25".

Other personal-best performances for DU came in the 200 and 400 dashes, 800 and 3,000 events and the weight throw. Freshman Grace Murray had PR times in both the 400 and 200, placing third (1:03.86) and 10th (28.97), respectively. Sophomore Olivia Ireland came in fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:04.69 and was ninth in the 200 at 28.91.

In the distance races, Geary led the way with a seventh-place performance in her first attempt at the 3,000-meter run. The senior clocked in with a time of 11:45.71. Sophomore Molly Korest also had a personal record in the event, finishing eighth in 11:49.21. Freshman Phoebe Osterhout was 10th in the 800 after checking in with a personal-best time of 2:34.59.

The final PR performance came in the weight throw where junior Rebecca Fritch re-set her own school record with a toss of 36'.7.75".

Denison will have two athletes, Aedin Brennan and Jessica Nix, compete in Sunday's North Coast Athletic Conference Pentathlon held at Oberlin College.
