Denison assistant track and field coach Ashley Shaffer was named the 2015 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women's Indoor Coach of the Year on March 12 at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship banquet.
Shaffer, the jumps and combined events coach at Denison for the past four years, coached four NCAC Champions in the pentathlon, the triple jump, the long jump and the high jump for 41 of the team's 74½ points at the meet. Two of those wins (long jump and pentathlon) resulted in school records, as well as an NCAC record in the pentathlon. Denison has sent two athletes coached by Shaffer to this year's NCAA Indoor Championships in Wallace Branche and Aedin Brennan.
Shaffer earned her bachelor's degree in physical education from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2008. The product of Lancaster High School was a five-time national qualifier, and earned All-American honors in the Heptathlon in 2007. She was a 31-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection, a 13-time conference champion, and was named NCAC Indoor Sprint/Hurdle MVP in 2005 and 2006.
