The Big Red women's track and field team posted 10 top-5 finishes at the annual Denison Last Chance Meet held on Friday inside the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio.
Reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Distance Runner of the Week Kate Benson finished runner up in the 800 run with a time of 2:28.67. Right behind her in third place was sophomore Phoebe Osterhout who checked in with a time of 2:30.85.
The Big Red had three athletes finish in the top-7 in the 3000-meter run lead by freshman Alyssa Bahel's second-place showing. Bahel clocked in with a time of 11:00.17. Classmate Anna Fash took third in the race at 11:01.75, while senior Lindsey Studebaker was seventh with a time of 11:19.41. Freshman Ajai Brooks rounded out the top performances in the running events with a third-place showing in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 8.02.
Sophomore Hannah Hall and freshman Grace Zukowski both finished in the top-5 of the high jump. Hall was second overall after clearing 5'0.25", while Zukowski was fifth with a final mark of 4'6". Junior Anne Lee posted fourth-place finishes in both the long (15'10.25") and triple jump (33'2") events.
Sophomore Arlesha Cospy was runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 40'7", which was almost three feet further than the third-place mark. In the weight throw, senior Rebecca Fritch posted a personal record in her sixth-place performance. Fritch finished with a final mark of 41'00.50", a mark that was 1'5.50" better than her previous PR.
Denison senior Aedin Brennan and sophomore Jessica Nix will be in action on Sunday at the NCAC Combined Events Championship at Ohio Wesleyan. The first event of the NCAC Pentathlon is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
