Big Red women win five titles at Denison Invite

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Denison women's track and field team won five event titles at Friday's rain-shortened Denison Big Red Invitational. Because of lightening and rain in the area, the meet after the completion of the women's 400 hurdles due to lightening and rain in the nearby area.

The Big Red got their five victories from four different, led by Arlesha Cospy's two wins. Cospy kicked off the meet with a personal-record performance in the discus (151'8"). In addition to being a 1'10" improvement on her previous PR, the junior's heave currently ranks sixth in the country. Cospy backed up that showing with a victory in the shot put with a final mark of 40'6.25". That winning performance surpassed her previous best by four inches.

Junior Hannah Hall also had two top-three performances, which included a victory in the high jump. Hall successfully cleared 5'3" to take home the win. She also finished third in the javelin with a final mark of 95'6". Hall accomplished that feat in her three preliminary throws, forgoing the finals to compete in the high jump. The junior's top distance landed her in fourth place on the program's top performers list.

Senior Anne Lee turned in a winning mark in the triple jump after finishing with a combined leap of 34'4.25". That performance was preceded by a fourth-place showing in the long jump (15'9.75"). Junior Emily Grabauskas racked up the fifth victory for Denison at the meet. Grabauskas captured the 1500-meter title with a final time of 4:57.30. DU freshman Erin O'Connor check in fifth in the event at 5:05.99.

Freshman sprinter Bren'et Muldrow was runner-up in the 400-meter dash after crossing the line in 1:00.96. Muldrow's time moved her into eighth place on the school's top performers list. Freshmen Sydney Chandler and Amy Kirk placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 hurdles. Chandler crossed the line in 1:12.73, while Kirk completed the race in 1:14.63. Sydney Lerda was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.78, while Bryn Tomczak placed fifth in the 100 hurdles

This weekend (April 29-30), junior Jessica Nix will represent the Big Red at the 2017 North Coast Athletic Conference Combined Events Championship held at Oberlin College. The entire Denison team will be back in action next weekend (May 5-6) when they travel Greencastle, Ind. for the 2017 NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
