LEXINGTON, Va. -- Denison women's track and field began their 2018 outdoor season on Friday as they competed in the first day of the Washington and Lee Carnival in Lexington, Va.

Headlined by a pair of victories from seniors Hannah Hall and Arlesha Cospy, the Big Red totaled two personal records and six top-10 finishes at day one of the event. In the women's high jump, Hall earned DU's first win of the day, reaching a mark of 5'2.25" (1.58 meters). Fellow senior Jessica Nix added a fifth place finish with her height of 4'10.25" (1.48 meters), while freshman Danni Gutelius came in 12th with a jump of 4'8.25" (1.43 meters).

In the discus event, Cospy posted the team's second win when she launched a maximum throw of 140'3" (42.74 meters). Freshman Anna Vrancken landed in fifth place with a 103'8.75" (31.61 meters), and she also placed 20th in the hammer throw with a toss of 100'4.50" (30.59 meters).

Rounding out the field events, Nix finished the women's long jump in 11th, posting a leap of 14'7.75" (4.46 meters).

On the track, junior Anna Fash led the Big Red with a new personal best and second place finish in the 10,000-meter run, clocking in at 38:21.78.

In the 1,500-meter run, Erin O'Connor paced DU in 17th place with a time of 5:10.99. Freshman Tommy Solberg finished less than three seconds behind O'Connor in 20th place with a 5:13.66, while Phoebe Osterhout landed one spot back in 21st (5:14.58).

Osterhout then teamed up with Molly Smith, Sydney Chandler and Sydney Lerda in the 4X400 meter relay to finish sixth overall after logging a time of 4:19.76.

Denison will return to Wilson Field on Saturday, March 17 for the second day of action at Washington & Lee.
