Denison women take sixth at Kenyon, compete at OSU

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women's track and field competed at the 2018 Jesse Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Ohio State University, while also placing sixth at the Kenyon Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Gambier.

At Ohio State, senior Hannah Hall led the charge with an eighth-place finish in the high jump event, reaching a height of 5'4.25", and then placing 24th in the javelin with a throw of 92' (28.06 meters). Arlesha Cospy also competed at Jesse Owens, finishing 29th in the shot put with a distance of 38'6.75".

In Gambier, headlining the field events for the Big Red was freshman Anna Vrancken. In the shot put, Vrancken finished in fourth with a throw of 34'4.25" (10.47 meters). She was trailed by teammate Jessica Nix in 12th place, who posted a mark of 28'1.50" (8.57 meters). Vrancken also tallied a fourth-place finish in the discus where she reached a distance of 112'8" (34.36 meters), and then placed eighth in the hammer throw, logging a toss of 104'4" (31.81 meters).

Nix garnered her best finish in the long jump with a seventh-place mark of 15'4" (4.67 meters), while Mackenzie Mason rounded out the field events with a second-place finish in the pole vault, reaching a height of 10' (3.05 meters).

On the track, Molly Smith took third place in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 1:02.51, with Sydney Lerda following in sixth place with a time of 1:04.86. Smith also competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing 11th (28.70), while Danni Gutelius placed 12th (28.90) and Lerda followed in 14th (30.33).

In the 800-meter run, Phoebe Osterhout logged a fourth-place time of 2:26.52 and Emily Grabauskas landed in 12th place, clocking in at 2:32.86. Also earning a fourth-place finish was Sydney Chandler in the 400-meter hurdles, checking in at 1:11.11. Chandler and Osterhout then teamed up with Smith and Gutelius in the 4X400 meter relay to place third overall with a time of 4:16.48.

Denison will return to the track on Friday, April 27 as they host the 2018 Big Red Invitational at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville.
