ALLIANCE, Ohio-- Denison women's track and field opened its season at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invitational.
Sophomore Danni Gutelius finished third in the high jump after clearing 1.55 meter (5'1"). That height ties for the fifth-best performance in Denison indoor track & field history.
Another top-10 performance was posted by first-year Ashley Schmoll in the shot put. The first-year placed third with a distance of 11.26 meters (36'11.50"). That performance ranks sixth all-time at DU. Following in sixth place overall was Anna Vrancken who posted 10.81 meters (35'5.75"). Leah Ackerman followed in eighth place (10.52 meters).
In the pole vault, Mackenzie Mason logged a 10th place showing after clearing 2.55 meters (8'4.25"). In the weight throw, DU went 13th and 15th as Vrancken checked in at 12.34 meters and Ackerman followed at 12.15 meters, respectively. Vrancken's showing ranks third all-time at Denison and Ackerman's throw sits fifth on the all-time list.
Sydney Chandler posted a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.23. She also added a 13th place finish in the 200-meter dash after a time of 28.75. Gutelius followed with a time of 29.94 in the 200, good enough for 22nd place.
Denison's next meet will take place on January 19, 2019, when they travel to the Carnegie Mellon Invitational at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
