GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Freshman Ashley Schmoll represented the Denison women's track & field team on Sunday afternoon as she placed seventh overall in the pentathlon competition at the 2019 All-Ohio Combined Events Championship hosted at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville.
Totaling 2,137 points over five events, Schmoll finished 110 points ahead of Defiance's Meagan Trimpey (2,027) in eighth place and fell 52 points short of sixth place Kimberly Taylor (2,189) from Muskingum. Capital's Emily Hilt captured the top honor with a first-place finish 3,191 combined points.
Schmoll's best finish came in the shot put event where she placed first overall on a throw of 35'8.50" (10.88 meters), nearly three feet ahead of Wittenberg's Stevie Plikerd who finished second in the event.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Schmoll logged a fifth-place finish with a time of 11.01, which moved her into Denison's list of top 10 personal records for indoor events.
In the 800 meter run, she placed seventh after clocking in at 3:06.67. Schmoll rounded out the competition with a pair of eighth-place finishes in the high jump (4'0.75") and the long jump (13'10.25").
Schmoll and Co. will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 9 when the Big Red travel to Salem, Va. to compete in the Roanoke College DIII Challenge.
