GAMBIER, Ohio – Highlighted by her second-place finish in the shot put, freshman Ashley Schmoll tallied 2,269 points to place 10th overall in the pentathlon at the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Combined Events Championship hosted at the Kenyon Athletic Center in Gambier, Ohio.
Schmoll landed 132 points behind Oberlin's Christine Impara (2,401) in ninth place and 187 points ahead of 11th place Kiara Harris from Ohio Wesleyan (2,082). Wooster's Carolyn Webster captured her second NCAC pentathlon crown in the last three years after totaling 3,229 points.
Earning her best result in the shot put event, Schmoll placed second overall with a final mark of 35'2.50" (10.73 meters).
Also garnering three new personal records on the day, Schmoll set a new career-best time in the 60-meter hurdles at 10.62 to finish the event in eighth. Personal bests also came in the high jump where she placed 10th (4'2.25") and the 800-meter run where she finished in ninth at 3:02.18.
Schmoll rounded out her efforts with a 10th place finish in the long jump on a maximum leap of 13'9.75" (4.21 meters).
Schmoll and the Big Red will return to action this Friday and Saturday, March 1-2 when they travel to the College of Wooster to take part in the 2019 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championship.
