LEXINGTON, Va. – Freshman Leah Ackerman and sophomore Danni Gutelius represented Denison women's track & field on Friday afternoon, competing at the first day of the 2019 Washington & Lee Carnival in Lexington, Va. to open their outdoor season.

Gutelius led the pair with a third-place finish in the high jump event, reaching a new outdoor personal record of 5'0.50" (1.54 meters). The height also launched her into Denison's all-time top-10 list of outdoor PRs.

In the hammer throw, Ackerman made her outdoor season debut in 18th place, reaching a final mark of 101'5.25" (30.92 meters). Just like Gutelius, her maximum distance also launched her into Denison's all-time top-10 list of outdoor PRs.

Denison will return to Washington & Lee on Saturday, March 16 to compete in the final day of action at the W&L Carnival. The Big Red will also send competitors to the Muskingum University Muskie Duals on Saturday in New Concord, Ohio.
