CLEVELAND, Ohio – Freshman Marija Pavlick and sophomore Molly Smith were recognized on Monday afternoon as the North Coast Athletic Conference's Athletes of the Week following a pair of first-place finishes at last week's Hilltop Classic in Birmingham, Ala.
Helping the Big Red earn a second-place finish as a team, Pavlick headlined DU's performances in the javelin event where she set a new school record and placed first overall on a final distance of 126'3" (38.49 meters). Pavlick's new program best finished nearly two feet better than the previous school record set by Denison's former All-American Aedin Brennan on May 5, 2016 (124'7"). Pavlick's mark currently ranks as the best in the conference and 32nd overall in all of NCAA Division III.
For Smith, she earned her second NCAC Athlete of the Week honor this season following a first-place finish in the 800-meter run where she clocked in at 2:24.59, the third-fastest time in the conference this season. She also joined Emily Willson, Sydney Lerda, and Tommy Solberg to place third in the 4X400 meter relay on a final time of 4:31.04.
The Big Red will return to action this Saturday, April 6 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the Marv Frye Invitational hosted at Ohio Wesleyan University.
