TIFFIN, Ohio--  Denison's four-match winning streak came to an end on Tuesday night as Heidelberg handed the Big Red a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 26-24) loss from Seiberling Gymnasium.

In the opening set, Denison tied things up with a service ace by Marija Pavlick but the Berg responded with seven-straight points to take a 15-8 lead.  A kill by Payton McElfresh got DU to within three points at 16-13 but that is as close as they would get.

Heidelberg hit at over 30 percent in the first and second sets to go up 2-0.

In the third it was looking like the Big Red would extend the match to a fourth set.  Denison held a six-point lead at 20-14 but three straight by the Berg cut the lead in half.

Denison got to set point after a kill by Emma Woerner but consecutive kills by Heidelberg's Laura Schrag, Alyssa Crusey and Amy Feczer clinched the match for the home team.

Denison's Isabella Pivec and Woerner led the way with six kills.  Pavlick finished with 18 digs while Kaila Kasper added 12.  Julia Miller had 26 assists and while Alex Tubbs and McElfresh chipped in five kills apiece.

Heidelberg (8-5) was led by Morgan Strenk's 17 kills while hitting .593.  Anna McNabb had 41 assists and 11 digs.

Denison (5-5) will open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday (Sept. 22) when they host DePauw University at 1 p.m.
