GRANVILLE, Ohio – As part of a three-match homestand, Denison volleyball hosted Muskingum University on Tuesday evening and fell to the Muskies, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17), at Livingston Gymnasium in Granville.

Despite opening the first set with a 12-8 advantage, thanks to service aces from Marija Pavlick and Alex Tubbs, the Big Red were unable to keep the lead as Muskingum tallied 12 of the next 16 points to go in front, 20-16. Kills by freshmen Olivia Burnside and Payton McElfresh allowed DU to tie the match at 20-20, but four-straight points and a kill by MU's Brynn Guist gave the first set to the Muskies, 25-21.

In the second set, multiple kills from sophomore Emma Woerner and senior Isabella Pivec set the tone for Denison as they opened with a 16-12 lead. A six-point swing followed from the Muskies as MU took the lead and eventually the set, increasing their advantage to 2-0 entering the final frame.

Kills by Tubbs and Pivec helped the Big Red stay within one point of Muskingum, 13-12, during the third set, but the Muskies collected 12 of the final 17 points to take the match and improve to 15-2 on the season. The Big Red fall to 5-7 overall.

Woerner and McElfresh led DU with 19 combined kills and 30 digs, while senior Julia Miller paced the Big Red with 30 assists. Pavlick finished the day with 22 digs and Burnside chipped in two blocks.

Muskingum finished with three players recording double-digit kills, including a match-best 14 from Guist. Erin Dickson led the night with 40 assists and Jessica Cottle finished with a match-high 23 digs.

Denison will wrap up their three-match homestand on Wednesday, September 26 when they host Earlham College at 7 p.m.
