Denison volleyball runs winning streak to five

BEXLEY, Ohio - Denison volleyball pushed their winning streak to five matches on Saturday following a pair of 3-0 sweeps of Capital University (25-18, 26-24, 25-14) and La Roche College (25-11, 25-20, 25-11) at the Capital Volleyball Invitational hosted in Bexley, Ohio. This marks DU's longest winning streak since 2013 when the Big Red totaled six-straight victories from Sept. 28 to Oct. 19.

The Big Red opened the day with a victory over Captial.  Payton McElfresh was two kills shy of her season-high as she led the way with 11 while posting a .320 hitting percentage.  Jenna Corrao recorded 12 digs and Sophie Tight racked up 35 assists in the three-set match. 

Denison totaled 15 blocks against the Crusaders.  Catherine Anderson had a stellar morning, finishing with eight kills, seven blocks while logging a .727 hitting percentage.  Sidney Gossard followed with five blocks, five kills, and seven digs.

In the finale against La Roche, McElfresh finished with a perfect seven-for-seven on kill attempts while adding eight digs. Freshman Natalie Hutras added seven kills on 10 attempts and Lucy Anderson and Catherine Anderson combined for 11 kills on 13 attempts. Tight paced the Big Red with 31 assists and Corrao posted a team-best 18 digs.

Denison returns to Livingston Gymnasium on Tuesday, Sept. 24 when they host Bluffton University at 7 p.m.
